Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed Ensure the butter is cold.
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional Add-ins

  • 1/2 cup dried fruit or chocolate chips Add as desired.

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  • Add the chilled butter cubes to the flour mixture. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to blend the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and vanilla extract. Pour this mixture into the flour mixture and blend until just combined. If using dried fruit or chocolate chips, gently fold them in.
  • Dust your work surface with flour and turn the dough onto it. Knead gently until it holds together, about 5-6 times.
  • Pat the dough into a circle about 1 inch thick, then cut it into wedges or use a round cutter for round shapes.
  • Preheat your air fryer to 320°F (160°C).

Cooking

  • Place scone pieces in a single layer in the air fryer basket, making sure they don’t touch.
  • Cook for about 10-12 minutes or until golden brown on top.
  • Carefully remove the scones from the air fryer and allow them to cool slightly on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

To serve, slice each scone in half and spread cream cheese or butter, with options for fruit preserves or lemon curd on top. Store in an airtight container for up to two days or freeze for up to three months. Reheat frozen scones in the air fryer at 300°F (150°C) for about 5 minutes.
