Ingredients

Dough and Filling

  • 1 package refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 1 pound boudin sausage (cooked and crumbled) Choose high-quality boudin for best flavor.
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Can substitute with other cheeses like pepper jack or gouda.
  • 1 small onion (diced)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
  • 1 egg beaten (for egg wash)
  • to taste fresh parsley (for garnish)

Optional Serving

  • to taste hot sauce For serving.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a skillet, sauté the diced onion and minced garlic over medium heat until the onion is soft—about 5 minutes.
  • Add the crumbled boudin sausage to the skillet and mix it with the sautéed onion and garlic. Cook until heated through, stirring occasionally, for another 5 minutes.
  • Remove the skillet from the heat and stir in the cheddar cheese and mustard, mixing until well combined. Sprinkle in the Cajun seasoning and stir to incorporate.
  • Roll out the crescent dough on a lightly floured surface. Pinch the seams together to create a flat sheet.
  • Take the boudin mixture and place it in the center of the dough, making sure to leave enough dough on the sides.
  • Fold the dough over the filling, pinching the edges to seal it. You can twist and form it into a circle if desired.
  • Place the formed cake onto a greased baking sheet.
  • Brush the top with the beaten egg for a golden-brown finish.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes or until the cake is golden and cooked through.
  • Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before garnishing with fresh parsley. Serve warm.

Notes

To elevate the dish, consider adding other vegetables like bell peppers or experimenting with different cheeses. For serving, slice into wedges and offer hot sauce on the side. This dish pairs well with a simple green salad or coleslaw.
