  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract For enhanced flavor.

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, packed brown sugar, and granulated sugar with an electric mixer for about 2-3 minutes until smooth and fluffy.
  • Add the egg and vanilla extract; beat until well combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix on low speed until just combined.
  • Gently fold in chocolate chips or nuts if using.

Baking

  • Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop rounded balls of dough onto ungreased baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches of space between each.
  • Bake for about 10-12 minutes, until the edges are lightly golden and the centers look slightly underbaked.
  • Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for about 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks.

Notes

To store cookies, place them in an airtight container at room temperature or freeze for longer storage. For thicker cookies, chill the dough for 30 minutes before scooping.
