Chicken Burgers with Bang-Bang Sauce

Ingredients
  

For the Salsa

  • 1 unit Roma tomato (diced)
  • 1/2 small red onion (diced)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 unit lime (juiced)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

For the Chicken Patties

  • 1 lb ground chicken High-quality ground chicken recommended.
  • 1/2 cup panko bread crumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes Adjust based on heat preference.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 4 slices Romaine lettuce For assembly.
  • 4 units onion buns For serving.
  • Olive oil or butter For toasting the buns.

For the Bang-Bang Sauce

  • 1/3 cup mayo
  • 3 tablespoons sweet chili sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Frank’s Red Hot
  • 1 teaspoon crushed garlic
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions
 

Preparation of Salsa

  • In a small mixing bowl, combine the diced Roma tomato, red onion, cilantro, lime juice, and pepper. Mix well and set aside.

Making Chicken Patties

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground chicken, remaining panko bread crumbs, egg, diced onion, cilantro, red pepper flakes, garlic powder, and paprika.
  • Use your hands to mix everything together until well combined.
  • Form the mixture into four equal patties, approximately ½ inch thick.

Cooking the Patties

  • Heat a cast iron grill pan over medium-high heat.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together all the ingredients for the Bang-Bang Sauce.
  • Once the grill pan is hot, spray it lightly with non-stick cooking spray and place the chicken patties in the pan.
  • Cook for about four minutes on one side before flipping them over.
  • After flipping, cook for an additional two minutes, then add Swiss cheese slices on top and cook for another two minutes.

Toasting the Buns & Assembling

  • Lightly brush the cut sides of the buns with olive oil or butter.
  • Toast on the grill pan until golden brown.
  • Assemble the burgers by placing lettuce on the bottom half, followed by a chicken patty topped with Swiss cheese, and a spoonful of salsa.
  • Slather the Bang-Bang Sauce on the top half of the bun and place it on top to complete the burger.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days. Freeze for longer storage. Adjust spices in the patties or sauce for personal preference.
