Ingredients
  

For the stir-fry

  • 1 lb boneless skinless chicken breast, thinly sliced Cut against the grain for tenderness.
  • 3 cups green cabbage, shredded
  • 1 medium carrot, julienned
  • 1 medium red bell pepper, sliced
  • 3 green onions, chopped For garnish and flavor.
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated

For the sauce

  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional) Provides depth.
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch To thicken the sauce.
  • 2 tablespoons water For slurry.

For cooking

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil For stir-frying.
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional) Adjust for heat.
  • To taste toasted sesame seeds For garnish.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Slice the boneless skinless chicken breast against the grain and toss it with 1 tablespoon of soy sauce. Let it marinate for a few minutes.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the remaining soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), sesame oil, rice vinegar, and the cornstarch mixed with water to create the sauce.

Cooking

  • Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large wok or skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated chicken and stir-fry for 4 to 5 minutes until cooked through. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  • In the same pan, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, and optional crushed red pepper flakes. Sauté for 30 seconds.
  • Add the shredded cabbage, julienned carrot, and sliced red bell pepper. Stir-fry for 3 to 4 minutes until the vegetables are crisp-tender.
  • Return the cooked chicken to the wok, pour in the prepared sauce, and stir everything together. Cook for an additional 2 minutes until the sauce thickens.

Serving

  • Serve hot, garnished with chopped green onions and toasted sesame seeds. Enjoy with steamed rice or noodles.

Notes

This dish can be customized with different vegetables or proteins. For a vegetarian option, use tofu.
