For the Cookie Dough

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure butter is at room temperature.
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs Add one at a time.
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Fluff the flour before measuring.
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a mixing bowl, cream the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar together until light and creamy.
  • Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  • In another bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually combine the dry ingredients with the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  • Gently fold in the chocolate chips.

Baking

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Drop spoonfuls of dough onto the baking sheet, leaving space between each.
  • Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until edges are firm but centers remain soft.
  • Cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For a chewier texture, chill the dough for about 30 minutes before baking. The cookies should look slightly underdone in the center when removed from the oven.
