Ingredients
  

For the Cake

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs room temperature
  • 1 cup whole milk room temperature
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

For the Ganache

  • 1 cup heavy cream heat until gentle boil
  • 8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour a sheet cake pan.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk until well blended.
  • Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  • Carefully stir in the boiling water to create a thin batter.

Baking

  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.

Making Ganache

  • In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream until it reaches a gentle boil. Pour it over the chopped chocolate and let it sit for a few minutes.
  • Stir the mixture gently until smooth and glossy.

Finishing

  • Once the cake has cooled, pour the ganache over the top and spread it evenly. Let it set before slicing.

Notes

Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. For storage, cover and keep at room temperature for up to 2 days, or refrigerate for a week. Can be frozen for longer storage.
