Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper, coated lightly with nonstick spray.
  • Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, covering the entire surface.

Caramel Preparation

  • In a saucepan, melt the unsalted butter and brown sugar over medium heat, stirring gently.
  • Bring the mixture to a gentle boil and cook for about 3 minutes while stirring constantly until the caramel thickens.

Baking

  • Pour the hot caramel over the arranged saltine crackers and spread evenly with a spatula.
  • Bake in the oven for 5 minutes until the caramel bubbles.
  • Remove the baking sheet and immediately sprinkle the semi-sweet chocolate chips over the hot caramel layer.
  • Let the chocolate soften for a few minutes, then spread it evenly across the caramel layer.

Final Touches

  • Top with chopped pecans or festive toppings while the chocolate is still warm.
  • Allow the dish to cool completely at room temperature, then refrigerate for 1 to 2 hours until set.
  • Break into pieces and serve as desired.
