  • 1/4 cup bourbon Optional, adds depth and complexity.

Preparation

  • Gather all ingredients and ensure sterilized jars are ready for the finished product.

Cooking

  • In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the fresh cranberries, orange zest, orange juice, sugar, and water. Stir well to evenly distribute the sugar.
  • Heat over medium heat until the cranberries begin to pop and release their juices.
  • Cook for about 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking, until the mixture thickens.
  • Add ground cinnamon and nutmeg, and incorporate well. Optionally, add bourbon.
  • Remove from heat and let cool slightly before pouring into prepared jars.

Storage

  • Seal jars tightly and refrigerate or process in a water bath for long-term storage.

Notes

To store, refrigerate for up to 1 month or process for up to a year. Label jars with the date of preparation. Use fresh cranberries for best results and consider adding grated ginger or other fruits for variations.
