  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure the butter is adequately softened for best results.
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest Freshly grated for best flavor.
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon orange extract (optional) For intensified orange flavor.
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional) To add sweetness before serving.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and orange zest until well combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture until just combined.
  • If desired, mix in the optional orange extract for extra flavor.

Baking

  • Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased baking sheets, spaced about two inches apart.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes, until edges are golden and centers remain soft.
  • Cool cookies on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks.
  • Dust cooled cookies with powdered sugar if desired before serving.

Notes

To keep cookies fresh, transfer to an airtight container once cooled. They stay fresh for up to a week at room temperature.
