  • 1 lb ground beef Use high-quality ground beef for better flavor.
  • 2 large potatoes, diced Cut into evenly sized cubes for uniform cooking.
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 large bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • to taste salt and pepper Adjust to your preference.
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • green onions Chopped for garnish.
  • shredded cheese Use your favorite type.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the chopped onion and bell pepper, sautéing them together for about 3-5 minutes until they soften.
  • Just before they become too tender, add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.

Cooking

  • Push the vegetables to the side of the skillet and add the ground beef. Break it up as it cooks, browning for about 6-8 minutes.
  • Once browned, introduce the diced potatoes and season with salt and pepper.
  • Stir everything together, cover the skillet, and reduce heat to medium, cooking for about 10-15 minutes.
  • Stir occasionally and check the potatoes for tenderness, which should be soft but not mushy.

Serving

  • Taste and adjust seasoning as necessary before serving hot.
  • Serve with optional toppings such as green onions, shredded cheese, or hot sauce.

Notes

For added texture, let the hash cook a little longer for a crispy bottom. It’s also versatile, allowing substitutions with ground turkey or including more vegetables.
