  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch For a lighter, crispier texture.
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup cold water Adjust for batter consistency.

Sauce Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes Optional for added spice.
  • Chopped green onions For garnish.

Instructions

Preparation of the Batter

  • Combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper in a large bowl. Mix thoroughly.
  • Gradually add cold water while whisking continuously until achieving a smooth, lump-free batter.

Frying the Shrimp

  • In a frying pan, heat enough oil to create 1.5 to 2 inches of depth. Heat oil to approximately 350°F.
  • Dip each shrimp into the batter, coating well, then carefully place in the hot oil.
  • Fry shrimp in small batches for 2 to 3 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
  • Remove shrimp with a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Making the Sauce

  • In a medium saucepan, combine honey, minced garlic, soy sauce, and rice vinegar. Optionally add red pepper flakes.
  • Heat over medium until bubbly and fragrant, stirring occasionally.

Coating and Serving

  • Once the sauce is ready, turn off the heat and toss the fried shrimp in the sauce until well coated.
  • Transfer to a serving platter and garnish with chopped green onions. Serve warm.

Notes

Serve with toothpicks and optional dipping sauces like sweet chili.
