  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup maraschino cherries, drained and chopped Adds sweetness and color.
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips Use high-quality for best results.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in two large eggs one at a time, ensuring each is well blended before adding the next.
  • Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, stirring gently until combined.
  • Fold in the chopped maraschino cherries and semisweet chocolate chips.

Baking

  • Drop rounded spoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about two inches apart.
  • Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until golden brown around the edges but still soft in the center.
  • Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

For best results, chill dough for 30 minutes before baking. Serve warm or allow to cool. These cookies can be stored in an airtight container for about a week.
