Ingredients

Cookie Base

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Ensure butter is at room temperature for optimal mixing.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour Use the spoon-and-level method to avoid packing.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups chocolate chips Feel free to mix varieties like dark and milk chocolate.
  • 1 cup chopped nuts Optional for added texture.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line several baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until the mixture becomes light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs and vanilla extract to the bowl, mixing just until everything is combined.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring until the dough comes together.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips and chopped nuts if you're using them.

Baking

  • Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown but the centers are still slightly soft.
  • Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

Consider drizzling cookies with melted chocolate or sprinking sea salt on top before serving. Store cooled cookies in an airtight container for freshness. Experiment with add-ins like peanut butter chips or dried fruit.
