Ingredients
  

For the Hot Chocolate

  • 4 cups milk Can be substituted with almond, coconut, or oat milk for a dairy-free version.
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder Use high-quality cocoa powder for richer flavor.
  • 1/3 cup sugar Adjust sweetness to your liking.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Can increase for more spice.
  • 1/8 teaspoon chili powder Adds a subtle kick; adjust based on spice preference.
  • 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips For a creamier texture.
  • 1 dash salt Enhances chocolate flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Adds depth and aroma.
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper Optional, for an extra kick.

Preparation

  • In a saucepan, pour in 4 cups of milk and place it over medium-high heat, being careful not to let it boil.
  • Add 1/4 cup of cocoa powder and 1/3 cup of sugar to the warming milk, whisking continuously until dissolved.
  • Stir in 1 teaspoon of cinnamon and 1/8 teaspoon of chili powder, mixing well.
  • Add 1/2 cup of milk chocolate chips and a dash of salt, stirring until the mixture is hot but not boiling, about 5 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and whisk in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. If desired, add a pinch of cayenne pepper at this stage.
  • Pour the hot chocolate into mugs and enjoy. Optionally, top with whipped cream, marshmallows, or a sprinkle of cinnamon.

Notes

Consider serving with churros, cookies, or a slice of chocolate cake for an elevated experience. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.
