Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure the butter is at room temperature.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest Use fresh zest for best flavor.
  • 0.5 cup fresh orange juice Fresh juice recommended.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract (optional)

Glaze (optional)

  • 1.5 cups powdered sugar For glazing the cookies.
  • 3 tablespoons milk For the glaze.
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest For garnishing the glaze.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together. Set this aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until the mixture becomes light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring to mix well after each addition. Then add the orange zest, fresh orange juice, vanilla extract, and almond extract, mixing until combined.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet mixture, stirring until everything is just combined. Do not overmix.
  • Drop heaping tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving enough space between each cookie.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  • Once done, remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Glazing (optional)

  • If you choose to glaze the cookies, whisk the powdered sugar and milk together in a small bowl. Drizzle this glaze over the cooled cookies and sprinkle with orange zest.

Notes

For the best results, use fresh orange juice and zest. Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week or freeze for up to three months. Serve with tea or coffee.
