  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened Ensure it's at room temperature.
  • 3-4 cups powdered sugar Adjust to desired sweetness and consistency.
  • 2-3 tablespoons fresh orange juice Fresh juice preferred for vibrant flavor.
  • 1 pinch salt Balances sweetness.

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and unsalted butter. Use an electric mixer on medium speed to beat until smooth and creamy, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, beating on low speed until well combined. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.
  • Add in the fresh orange juice and orange zest, mixing on medium speed until well-combined and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  • If the frosting is too thin, add more powdered sugar until reaching the preferred consistency.
  • Taste the frosting and adjust sweetness or citrus flavor as necessary by adding more powdered sugar or orange juice.

Notes

Serve the frosting on vanilla or lemon cakes, cupcakes, or use as a dip for fruit. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
