Cake Ingredients

  • 1 box cake mix (vanilla or white) Use your favorite brand.
  • 1 package orange gelatin
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 1 cup orange sherbet Optional, for topping.

Whipped Cream Topping Ingredients

  • 1 cup heavy cream Use high-quality for best results.
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Garnish (optional)

  • to taste orange slices For garnish.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven according to the directions on your cake mix box.
  • Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  • In a bowl, combine the cake mix with the required ingredients per the package instructions. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan.
  • Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes. Check with a toothpick for doneness.
  • Dissolve the orange gelatin in 1 cup of boiling water, then mix in 1 cup of cold water and let cool.

Assembly

  • Once the cake has cooled for about 10 minutes, poke holes all over the top using a fork.
  • Pour the cooled gelatin mixture evenly over the cake and let it cool completely at room temperature, then chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours.

Topping

  • Whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  • Spread the whipped cream topping over the chilled cake.
  • Add scoops of orange sherbet on top of the whipped cream and garnish with orange slices if desired.

Service

  • Slice and serve the cake chilled, optionally with extra orange sherbet and whipped cream on the side.

Notes

Store leftovers in the refrigerator covered with plastic wrap or aluminum foil for 3 to 5 days.
