Glaze Ingredients

  • 1 cup powdered sugar For sweet glaze.
  • 2 tablespoons fresh orange juice For flavor in the glaze.
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract Enhances sweetness.
  • 1 tablespoon additional orange zest For topping.

Preparation of Dough

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk and sugar, stirring until dissolved.
  • Add the yeast and let it sit for about 5 minutes until bubbly.
  • Mix in the softened butter, salt, egg, and orange zest.
  • Gradually add the flour, combining until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Baking

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick.
  • Spread melted butter on the surface of the dough.
  • Sprinkle a mixture of sugar and the additional orange zest evenly over the top.
  • Roll the dough tightly into a log shape and cut it into 12 equal pieces.
  • Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let them rise again for about 30 minutes.
  • Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.

Glazing

  • While the rolls are baking, prepare the glaze by mixing powdered sugar, fresh orange juice, and vanilla until smooth.
  • Once the rolls are out of the oven, drizzle the glaze over the warm rolls and let it soak in before serving.
