  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup salted caramel sauce Use homemade or store-bought.

For the crust and topping

  • 1 cup rolled oats Certified gluten-free if needed.
  • 1 cup flour Substitute with gluten-free blend if desired.
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted Consider using brown butter for added flavor.
  • 1/2 cup nuts (optional) Almonds or pecans for extra crunch.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking pan.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the chopped apples with cinnamon.
  • In another bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, and melted butter until crumbly.
  • Press half of the oat mixture firmly into the bottom of the greased baking pan.

Assembly

  • Layer the spiced apple mixture over the oat crust.
  • Drizzle salted caramel sauce over the apples.
  • Sprinkle the remaining oat mixture on top and add nuts if desired.

Baking

  • Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until the top is golden brown.
  • Allow the bars to cool completely before cutting into squares.

Notes

Consider serving warm with vanilla ice cream and an extra drizzle of caramel. Store in an airtight container for up to a week or freeze for longer storage.
