  • 2 large eggs At room temperature
  • 1 cup whole milk At room temperature
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water Added to the batter

Frosting Ingredients

  • 1 cup salted caramel sauce
  • 2 cups unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup salted caramel sauce For frosting

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix thoroughly.
  • Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract. Beat for 2 minutes on medium speed.
  • Pour in boiling water to the batter, mixing until just combined.
  • Divide the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.

Baking

  • Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Let cakes cool in pans for about 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Frosting and Assembly

  • Beat together softened butter, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and salted caramel sauce until smooth.
  • Once the cake layers are cool, frost each layer with the salted caramel chocolate frosting and drizzle remaining caramel on top.
