Ingredients

Cookie Base

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Mix-ins

  • 2 cups walnuts, chopped
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.

Mixing Ingredients

  • In another bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing thoroughly until a dough forms.
  • Gently fold in the chopped walnuts and chocolate chips if using.

Baking

  • Using a tablespoon, drop rounded balls of dough onto ungreased baking sheets, spacing them a couple of inches apart.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges turn golden brown.
  • Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For best results, use fresh, high-quality walnuts and consider toasting them lightly before mixing them in. You can customize the dough by adding a pinch of cinnamon or orange zest for variation. Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes to enhance the flavors.
