Ingredients
  

For the sauce

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Preparation

  • Melt the unsalted butter over medium heat in a medium saucepan.
  • Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1-2 minutes, until fragrant but not browned.
  • Gradually stir in the all-purpose flour to form a roux, stirring constantly for 1-2 minutes.
  • Whisk in the whole milk and then the heavy cream gradually while increasing the heat slightly.
  • Continue stirring until the mixture starts to bubble and thicken.
  • Add the salt, black pepper, and Italian seasoning, and stir to combine evenly.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the grated Parmesan cheese until melted and smooth.
  • Allow the sauce to cool briefly before using.

Notes

Store any leftover sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to five days. For longer storage, freeze in portions.
